Graeme is now based in Edinburgh, having lived in Aberdeen for many years. He trained in Drawing & Painting at Gray's School of Art, Aberdeen. His vivid, personal abstracted works create a striking visual impace as well as an emotional resonance.
He says of his work: "Colour and nature are my main inspirations and I try to capture the essence and atmosphere of a landscape. To me, colours are emotions that are conjured up by seeing a place in a particular light, at a particular time. I use the freedom of abstraction to create artistic interpretations of Scotland’s natural environment and geological form as affected by weather, seasons, history, manmade structures, crops, light and erosion.
My creative process involves working back through multiple layers of colour producing similarities to natural surfaces worn by the elements, revealing a previous layer, a story from before brought up to date. Through this process I aim to achieve depth in colour and texture, and to communicate my own visual experience of the richness and the complexity and interpretations of places visited and explored."
