Marie Scott was born in the Orkney Islands, she now lives and works in East Lothian. Marie trained under the artist, William Burns, in Aberdeen. She is a professional member of the Scottish Society of Artists, and her work is in held in the collection of the Royal Bank of Scotland, Bank of Paris in London, and The National Collection.
Marie paints still life, abstract, landscape and coastal scenes. She works on both monumental floating canvases and small intimated framed paintings. What unites this variation of scale and subject matter is Marie's recognsiably stylised approach and personal language of colour and mark making; she uses a palette knife to smear and scratch the paint, together with a flattened perspective, strong lines and striking block colour. We are delighted to show several of Marie's abstract paintings, despite their conceptual nature, they immediately evoke a sense of the cold sea and Notherly coasts of Scotland.
