Stewart Lammie was born in Yorkshire and is now based in Newton Stewart on the Machars peninsula in Dumfries and Galloway, southwest Scotland.  He is an extraordinary painter of light and atmosphere, and is able to capture both landscapes and seascapes with the quiet confidence of the colourist painters of the 20th Centrury.

"I paint outdoors whenever I can, my aim is to capture a sense of place and mood at a certain moment in time.  Usually the effect of light is my focus, a quite plain scene can be transformed by atmospheric light into a dramatic view.  I paint in oils, the rich colours and textural qualities appeal to me; I like to be able to see the paths an artist takes in his or her work, to see brush strokes or marks give a work integrity."
