We are really fortunate to count Edinburgh based artist, Helen Jackson, as one of our fantastic tutors at the Edinburgh Drawing School. Helen runs the kids classes, an introduction to drawing course and also shares her passion and skill for floral painting with her dedicated and ever growing following of students.
Helen studied Drawing and Painting at Edinburgh College of Art, whilst completeing her degree she worked as a technician at Leith School of Art, where her role included giving tutor support to Jacqueline Watt, Matt Storstein and Damian Callan. During this time she was also a gallery assistant in the Kingfisher Gallery where she had her first professional exhibition in 1999.
After leaving ECA, Helen worked part-time at The Colours Gallery on Dundas Street whilst pursuing her own painting career. In 2003 she became a self-employed artist and has had numerous exhibitions in and around Edinburgh. Helen tries to squeeze in an annual painting trip to France (around running the EDS kids summer school workshops!) She is particularly inspired by the colour and light in the region around Marseilles. She is fascinated with the idea of creating a personal symbolic language, a visual signature that communicates through energy and images. This is aparent in her beautiful paintings of flowers, which burst out of the canvas with a luminousity and sheen that wonderfully captures a celebration of life in all it's colourful glory.
