Andy Forbes has a workshop in Edinburgh producing small pieces of bespoke furniture and one-off artworks. The emphasis is on unique and unusual design.
After his graduation in 1981, Andy worked with a group of fellow artists and makers, who had a shop and workshop on Broughton Street in Edinburgh. During the nineties Andy worked as a photographer, he also began to renovate houses in this period and to make indivual furnishings that were influenced by and particular to the style and form of each house. Andy's work has been strongly influenced by the Bauhaus movement and the concept of "form following function". More recently Andy has made a conscious move towards focusing on the 'art' rathen than simply the 'craft' of his creations. His aim is to fuse line, colour and geometric shapes together so that each final piece captures the attention and stands out from the ordinary.
Andy has exhibited with the Scottish Furniture Makers Association (SFMA), Visual Arts Scotland (VAS), Craft Scotland and independently in Edinburgh, Dumfries and Glasgow.
