Dugald Findlay's landscape paintings are instantly distingusable by their vibrant and magenetic brightness, beautiful jewel-coloured palette and strong, dynamic brushwork and textured surface.
Dugald was born in Perthshire in 1943 and studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Glasgow School of Art before going to work as a Production Designer in television and film in the UK and New Zealand. In 1999, he started painting full-time, focusing on landscapes and seascapes. He relishes the challenge of depciting the contrasts of the Scottish landscape, where the unpredictable weather and ever changing interaction between light and landscape provide endless material. Most of the time Dugald Findlay’s subject matter is taken from reality but the shapes and forms trigger his imagination and the outcome is often as surprising to him as it is to the viewer. Form, colour, line, pattern and texture all play their part, though his spontaneous approach ensures an exciting and imaginative composition. His chosen medium is acrylics, which offer him the freedom he requires.
Dugald Findlay has exhibited in galleries throughout Scotland and his work is held in many private collections.
