Mark Edward is originally rom Aberdeen, but studied at Edinburgh College of Art, and is now based in Edinburgh, where he paints full time. Painting with oils on canvas, and experimenting with pristine laquer and varnish surfaces, he also is best known for his evocative paintings of Koi carp.
The painitngs can range in size from less than 20cm square to over 80cm square, and almost always feature Koi. Mark is a hugely talented and 'painterly' painter - interested in technique, finish, and experimenting with his materials and finishes. Working towards an elusive and hypnotic mirror finish, he would, for instance, happily assemble a structure around the edge of a canvas, within which to pour varnish onto the canvas surface in order to obtain this effect.
Mark has a huge following for his work, and the paintings, which can often take weeks to complete, are highly sought after.
