Anne Butler is a well known Scottish artist, based in Dumfries & Galloway, who has exhibited extensively in Scotland, the Borders and Northern England. Her abstract landscapes and floral works are executed in bold palette knife and brush strokes, and her fantastic use of colour is instinctive and joyous.
She says of her style: “I paint semi-abstract landscapes in a free and loose style with bright colours. The paintings have many layers, scraped back with various tools. Some pieces go on a long journey, constantly changing - one or two get big
buckets of water thrown at them!”
Her artist statement simply reads...
“To produce large, strong and vigorous paintings
To use colour to evoke and provoke
To be lyrical and expressive and take risks”
